TOPIK explained

What is TOPIK — and what should you expect on test day?

TOPIK, the Test of Proficiency in Korean, is the official Korean-language proficiency examination for non-native speakers. It measures how well you understand and use Korean in listening, reading and, at higher levels, writing. TOPIK Speaking is offered separately as a computer-based speaking test.

TOPIK I is the beginner exam. TOPIK II is the intermediate-to-advanced exam. TOPIK I evaluates Listening 듣기 and Reading 읽기. TOPIK II adds Writing 쓰기 and requires much more control of vocabulary, grammar, register and time management.

TOPIK I — Levels 1 & 2

30 listening questions in 40 minutes and 40 reading questions in 60 minutes, for 70 questions and 200 points with no break. It focuses on everyday vocabulary, short conversations, notices and simple texts.

TOPIK II — Levels 3 to 6

50 listening questions in 60 minutes and four writing tasks in 50 minutes, followed by a break and 50 reading questions in 70 minutes. Writing includes sentence completion, a 200–300-character response and a 600–700-character essay.

The best preparation is not simply to memorise more words. You need to recognise recurring instructions, distractors, question logic and time pressure. The training below is designed to build exactly that familiarity.

Real Test Mode
During test pages, instructions, questions and answer choices stay in Korean, just like the real TOPIK. Scores, 정답 and explanations appear only after the test.

A little about me

Fun enough to keep going. Precise enough to progress.

I am a certified Korean as a Foreign Language teacher, a native Korean speaker, bilingual in French and fluent in business English, with a BA in French Language and Literature. I have lived in France for around a decade and spent more than twenty years in multinational companies including L'Oréal and Coty, across marketing, management, branding and Asian business.

Around Level 2, many learners start to feel stuck. They may recognise expressions from K-dramas, K-pop or apps, yet still struggle to understand why one grammar form works, which word is natural in context, or how register and cultural expectations change meaning.

When needed, I can explain those differences precisely in French or English. Many native-speaker tutors are excellent conversation partners, but not all are formally trained or certified to teach Korean as a Foreign Language; and even qualified teachers may not always be able to give a precise French- or English-language explanation when an intermediate learner needs it.

Teaching method

Accurate, contextual and never boring.

Pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, sentence patterns, politeness levels and communicative context are learned together rather than as disconnected lists. I want learners to understand not only what an expression means, but why it is used and what nuance it carries.

Good habits matter from the beginning. Inaccurate patterns repeated for too long can become difficult to correct later — a process often described as fossilization. Structure is not about making Korean academic; it is about giving you enough precision to keep progressing.

K-dramas, K-pop, food, beauty, work culture and everyday conversation remain part of the learning experience. The aim is to go beyond repeating phrases and understand the grammar, register, social relationship and cultural logic underneath them.
